PIUS C. BURGARD

Pius Burgard Life Long Resident Dies

Pius C. Burgard, a well known, highly respected citizen passed away at his home Wednesday afternoon, after having been in failing health for several years.

Mr. Burgard was born July 30, 1874, a son of Joseph and Caroline Helzle Burgard. He was aged 78 years, two months and 28 days.

He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Gruber. To them were born five children, all of whom with the widow, survive. They are: Herschel Burgard of Browning; Andrew Burgard of La Prairie; Galen Burgard of St. Louis; Mrs. Mildred Hult, Naperville; Mrs. Lula Baker, Dixon. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Burgard had lived his entire life in and near Astoria. He was a member of the Astoria Church of the Brethren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Astoria Church of the Brethren, conducted by Rev. Homer Kiracofe, assisted by Delmar Moyer. Burial was in South Fulton cemetery.
