Donald M. Atwater, 85, of rural Knoxville, died at 6:25 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 1985, at St. Mary’s Hospital at Galesburg.
He was born Dec. 8, 1900, at Ipava, a son of Burley and Della Gilson Atwater. He married Sarah J. Marshall on Jan. 2, 1929, at Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Barbara) Brunner of Ames, Iowa, Mrs. Robert (Charlene) Wolschlag of Elmwood, Mrs. Michael (Patricia) Johnson of Victoria; six grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Orlie, Harley and Dwight Atwater, all of Ipava; two sisters, Wilma Dean Sears of Ipava and Mrs. Russell (Dorothy) Foutch of Bradford.
One daughter and two brothers preceded him in death.
A farmer, he was raised and educated in Ipava, and lived in the Ipava and Farmington areas before coming to Knoxville 28 years ago. He attended the Presbyterian Churches of Ipava, Elmwood and Knoxville when he lived in those areas.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home at Knoxville with Rev. Charles Hoekstra officiating. Burial was in the Knoxville Cemetery.
