SARAH J. (MARSHALL) ATWATER

Sarah Atwater

Sarah J. Atwater, 90, of Elmwood, formerly of Galesburg and rural Knoxville, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday, June 23, 1997, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born April 19, 1907, in Ipava, a daughter of Clare V. and Ina Mae Foot Marshall. She married Donald M. Atwater on Jan. 2, 1929, in Peoria. He died Dec. 12, 1985. She also was preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Barbara) Brunner of Peoria, Mrs. Robert (Charlene) Wolschlag of Elmwood and Patricia Johnson of Galesburg; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Imogene Thrasher of Hoopeston.

She lived in Ipava, then Farmington before moving to Knoxville. She attended the Presbyterian churches in Ipava, Elmwood and Knoxville. She was a charter member of Ipava Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and was a member of Meet-Your-Neighbor Club in Knoxville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville with Rev. Gary Hutton officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Research, American Heart Research or any charity.
