Fritz WysFrederick “Fritz” L. Wys, 79, of Lewistown died at 4:20 p.m. Dec. 1, 2020, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Sept. 16, 1941, in Lewistown, a son of Elmer G. and Jeanette E. Guiher Wys. He married Jan Crnkobich Barker on Dec. 22, 2001, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are five children, Kurt P. Wys of New Berlin, Kathy (and Kyle) Keefauver of Glasford, Heidi Jo (and Jim Simmons) Wys of Bartonville, Sarah Oller of Cuba; and one stepdaughter, Kara (and Lewis) Pigg of Canton; two sisters, Barbara Simpson and Clara Kay (and Charles) Nott, both of Lewistown; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde Wys; and one stepson, John B. Barker.

He was a lifelong farmer. He also worked as a machinist at Caterpillar, retiring after 38 and one-half years, and was a member of the UAW Local 974.

He was a Vietnam veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1966-67.

He was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, the Fulton County Farm Bureau and the ABA Bowling Association.

A private family service was held Saturday with Reverend Shane Smith officiating. A public graveside service was held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown with military services conducted by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001 and the Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown was in charge of arrangements.
