Wanda WheelhouseWanda Joyce Wheelhouse, 84, of Rushville died at 4:05 p.m. Jan. 20, 2018, at her home.

She was born July 14, 1933, in Schuyler County, a daughter of Samuel Henry and Pansy Downs Gust. She married Robert R. Wheelhouse on Aug. 8, 1950, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 2017.

She also was preceded in death by one grandson, Daniel Ross Wheelhouse; and one sister, Patsy Logsdon.

Surviving are three sons, Robert S. (and Pamela) Wheelhouse of Barrington, James (and Cheryl) Wheelhouse of Rushville and Bill (and Margie) Wheelhouse of Springfield; two sisters, Karen (and Steve) Beghtol and Jo (and Don) Shaw, both of Rushville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Rushville High School with honors and attended community education classes on a variety of topics. Before starting a family, she worked at Doane Trone’s Law Office. While raising her sons, she helped her husband at Wheelhouse TV, first part-time and then as a co-manager. She also worked as an office assistant for Dr. Dohner and was a teacher’s aide and office assistant for Schuyler Community School District #1.

She was a dedicated volunteer at Cub Scout and school activities.

For many years she was a member of Rushville Presbyterian Church where she served on the nominating committee and was an officer in the Women’s Association. She also was active in the church as a Deacon and Elder. She was a past secretary of the Jayettes, served on the Session Board of Tri-County Community Concert Association and as secretary of the Schuyler Arts Council.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at her church with Rev. Ann Kelson officiating. Burial will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
