Gene Wise

Gene R. Wise, 77, of Rushville died at 10:27 a.m. Nov. 4, 2015, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Nov. 4, 1938, in Clearfield, Iowa, a son of John and Goldie Neal Wise. He married Charlene L. Helm on Jan. 9, 1959, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Michael J. (and Lori) Wise and Daniel (and Niki) Wise, all of Rushville, Karen (and friend Terry Buss) Wise of Clayton and Deborah J. (and David) Brewer of Industry; one brother, Don Wise of Rushville; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Grant Wise and Ricky Wise; one grandson, Allen Rae Wise; one half-brother, Wayne Hardy; two half-sisters, Ramona Griffith and Clara Hardy; and three brothers, Corydon, Dean and Dale Wise.

He first worked for Lloyd Loring farming. He then worked at Doc Barrett’s gas station. Gene, along with his brother Don and father, traveled over several states shoeing horses. He then worked at NTN Bower in Macomb, while also driving a bus for Schuyler School District. He began his career with Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital’s Maintenance Department in 1979. He retired as head of maintenance in 1996.

He was a charter member of Church of Christ (Christian) in Rushville. He and Charlene were members of the Riverboat Ramblers and Twilight Twirlers square dance clubs.

Services were held Monday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Gary Sheets and Pat Clements officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Culbertson Memorial Hospital Foundation, the Schuyler County Ambulance or the Rushville/Industry Golf Team.
