L. Leon Wickert

L. Leon Wickert, 86, of Astoria, formerly of Lewistown, died at 1:53 p.m. April 30, 2011, at Astoria Gardens.

He was born July 18, 1924, in Macomb, the son of Reuben D. and Alma H. Husted Wickert.

He married Rosalee Werner on Dec. 18, 1945, in Astoria. She preceded him in death on Sept. 19, 2005. He then married Margaret Scrogum on Jan. 9, 2007, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Stephen (and Marie) Wickert of Lewistown; two daughters, Deborah (and John) Sandoval of Galesburg and Melanie (and John) Clark of Havana; one stepdaughter, Saundra (and Larry) Smith of Lamonte, Mo; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was one stepson, Charles Scrogum.

He was a lifelong farmer in the Fulton County area.

He was a 4-H leader, a member of Fulton County Farm Bureau, Spoon River Towers Board of Directors, Fulton County FS Board of Directors and Illinois Street Christian Church in Lewistown where he served as Elder and was on the church board.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Kevin Van Tine officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery in Astoria.

Memorials may be made to Graham Hospital Hospice or Illinois Street Christian Church.
