William WhiteWilliam J. White, 73, of Beardstown died in the morning of March 5, 2010, in his home.

He was born March 23, 1936, in Bushnell, a son of William and Eva Marie Derry White. He married Rosemary Morgan Harbin on May 26, 1979, in Bluff Springs. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Elaine (and Phil) Seaborn of Baylis, Barbara Hamilton of Mode and Brian (and April) Harbin of Chatham; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Charlene Hembree and Debbie Jennings, both of Carson City, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews from Astoria.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Smith; and three brothers, Eugene, Gary and Norman White.

He served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 19, 1959, to Feb. 18, 1965, with the Combat Engineers stationed in Korea. He was a sharpshooter with the M-1 Rifle and an expert with the Carbine Rifle.

He graduated as salutatorian from Astoria High School in 1954 and attended Monmouth College.

He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, B.P.O. Elks #1007, Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post #1239 and American Legion, all in Beardstown.

He was employed with CIPS for 32 years until his retirement in 1998.

Services were held Monday at his church in Beardstown. Burial was in Beardstown City Cemetery. Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown was in charge of arrangements.
