Mother of Astorians Dies Monday Evening

Mrs. Catherine (Katie) Elizabeth Workman, 88, died about 7 p.m. Monday in the Culbertson Memorial hospital in Rushville, following a lengthy illness. She had resided in Astoria most of her life and was a member of the Woodland Church of the Brethren.

Born on Feb. 2, 1872, in Pennsylvania, a daughter of Martin and Mary Brehm Burkholder, she was married on Sept. 15, 1904, to John D. Workman, who preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1951.

She is survived by two sons, Everett and Sam, both of Astoria, two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Winston of Frederick, and Mrs. Twila Cook of Canton, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Harvey Burkholder of Towerhill. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Funeral rites will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Astoria Church of the Brethren, by the Rev. E. Gifford Ammermann and the Rev. D. Edwin Rodabaugh. Burial will be in South Fulton Cemetery.
