John Workman Dies Saturday; Funeral Monday

John D. Workman died Saturday morning at his home at the east edge of town, following a long illness. He was aged 77 years, 8 months and three days.

He was born near Astoria on May 10, 1873, a son of Will and Sarah Jane Branch-Workman. He was united in marriage to Katherine “Katie” Burkholder, on September 15, 1904, who with the following children, survive: Everett Workman, Astoria; Mrs. Twila Cook, Canton; Mrs. Dorothy Winston, Frederick, and Samuel Workman, Astoria. Also eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, together with two brothers, Dow Workman of Astoria, Will Workman of Quincy and three sisters, Mrs. Bessie Burquist, Adair; Mrs. Della Butler, Monmouth; and Mrs. Florence Clare, of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Mr. Workman was engaged in farming in the Lookout vicinity for a number of years. The last five years he spent in Astoria.

Funeral services were held at the Astoria Church of the Brethren, Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. Homer Kiracofe and Rev. Harold I. Deeter. Burial in South Fulton cemetery.
