Richard Utter

Richard UtterRichard Lee Utter, 57, of Cooperstown, formerly of Camden, died at 1:20 p.m. March 6, 2018, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born Jan. 6, 1961, in Rushville, a son of Charles Richard Jr. and Lucille Ilene Robinson Utter. He married Katherine Hendricks on Nov. 14, 1986, in Cooperstown. She survives.

Also surviving are six children, Jessica Hendricks, Janice Hendricks, Jennifer (and Johnny) Barfield, John (and Amanda) Utter, Jeannine Utter and Julia Utter, all of Cooperstown; two brothers, Robert Utter and Ronnie Utter, both of Rushville; one sister, Rebecca Merrey of Rushville; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister in infancy.

He dedicated his life to serving his community. He had served as ambulance director and ESDA coordinator in Schuyler County for 30 years, retiring in 2016.

He received the Illinois Rural Health Association Emergency Medical Services Professional of the Year in 2015. He was a member of the Illinois Medical Emergency Response Team (IMERT) and the Illinois Firefighters Association.

Cremation was accorded, and a memorial service was held Monday at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling. Inurnment was in the Cooperstown Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Richard Utter Memorial Fund to benefit the Cooperstown Park Playground Equipment.
