Gerald TomlinsonGerald Henry Tomlinson, 83, of Rushville died at 2:15 p.m. May 24, 2016, at Rushville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 2, 1933, a son of D. M. and Florence Ella Walker Tomlinson. He married E. Joan Thompson on Sept. 28, 1952, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Kathy (and Michael) Bussell of East Peoria and Debra (and Larry) Bennett-Tomlinson and Vicky (and John) Marquis, both of Rushville; three brothers, Wayne (and Gloria) Tomlinson of Rushville, Glen E. (and Gale) Tomlinson of Bloomington and Jesse Leroy “Orvie” of Apple Springs, Texas; and two sisters, Dorothy M. Walker of Rushville and Marilyn Lewis of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris Tomlinson and John Paul “JP” Tomlinson; and two sisters, Anna Lee Phillips and Marie Bayles.

He graduated from Rushville High School in 1952. His first job was working for his father at the Tomlinson Fertilizer and Feed Company in Rushville.

He served eight years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He later was a pilot for the Ohio River Company, a driver’s license examiner for the Secretary of State, a laborer for Amax Coal Company and a maintenance worker for the State of Illinois CMS before retiring. He and his wife also owned and operated Tomlinson Mobile Home Sales and Tomlinson Court for many years and he was a sales rep for Old Heritage Life Insurance.

He attended Rushville Church of Christ (Christian). He was a member of the Rushville Moose Lodge #506 for 47 years.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Aug. 16, 2016, at the Tomlinson Family Home at 125 E. Clinton St. in Rushville. Inurnment will follow in Rushville City Cemetery. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
