John "JP" TomlinsonJohn Paul "JP" Tomlinson, 74, of Rushville died at 8:06 a.m. Aug. 25, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Rushville, a son of Durward Morris and Florence Ella Walker Tomlinson. He married Sharon Prunty on April 1, 1958, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Rita Thomas (and Al) of Rushville and Tina (and Pete) Townsend of Chandler, Ariz.; one son, James "Jim" Tomlinson of Houston, Texas; four brothers, Gerald (and Joan) Tomlinson and Wayne (and Gloria) Tomlinson, both of Rushville, Glen E. (and Gale) Tomlinson of Bloomington and Jesse Leroy "Orvie" (and Maurine) Tomlinson of Apple Springs, Texas; and two sisters, Dorothy M. Walker of Rushville and Marilyn Lewis of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one infant son, D. Morris Tomlinson; one brother, Robert Morris Tomlinson; two sisters, Anna Lee Phillips and Grace Marie Bayles.

He was a heavy equipment operator for Evans and Mason Construction Company, retiring in 1999.

He was a member of Rushville Free Methodist Church, Beardstown Elks Lodge #1007, Rushville Moose Lodge #506 and Union Local #965.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
