Elva ThompsonElva L. Thompson, 90, formerly of Astoria, died at 8:35 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2005, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. She had been a resident of Culbertson Long Term Care since October 2001.

She was born Aug. 1, 1915, on a farm near Bryant, a daughter of Charles and Minnie Haacke Hummel. She married Marshall Dean Thompson on Dec. 24, 1934, in Palmyra, Mo. He died Jan. 15, 1995.

She also was preceded in death by one son, Charles.

Surviving are one son, Marshall (and Lelah) of Champaign; one daughter, Judy (and Gene) Vaughn of Washington; one daughter-in-law, Jean Thompson of Danville; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She and her husband first were tenant farmers near Monterey. They farmed near Bader starting in the 1940s, moving to Astoria after retiring.

She was a member of Bader Christian Church and Bader Ladies Aid.

Services were held Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Dean Cripe officiating. Burial was in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
