WILLARD J. “PILL” THOMAS

Willard J. “Pill” Thomas, 72, of rural Browning died at 4:03 p.m. Monday, April 6, 1998, at 16 Cemetery, Woodland Twp., Fulton County.

He was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Astoria, a son of Guy F. and Estella Bergquest Thomas. He married Doris McCombs on Sept. 3, 1950, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, David A. Thomas and J. Stephan Thomas, both of Astoria; one daughter, Teresa Garbe of Camp Point; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Betty Phillips of Peoria and Twila Orr of Astoria.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.

A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of the Astoria American Legion Post #25. He also was a member of the Bader Christian Church. He worked for Culligan’s for 11 years, then was co-owner of the Cesco Soft Water Company of Ipava from 1963 until present.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. at his church on Thursday with Rev. James Shirley officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Burial will be in Bader Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Astoria American Legion Post #25.

Memorials may be made to his church or the Astoria Rescue Squad.
