Winifred “Winnie” M. Thomas, 90, of Rock Island, formerly of Albuquerque, N.M., died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996, at Trinity Medical Center-East. She lived in the Summum area when she was young.
She was born Dec. 6, 1905, in Fulton County, a daughter of Hugh “Cap” and Sarah Thomas Foutch. She married Arthur H. Thomas in 1923 in Lewistown. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1970. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Lois Taylor, in 1973.
Surviving are one daughter, Doris Chance of Rock Island, with whom she resided; two sons, Donald L. and Louella Thomas of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mel and Shirley Thomas of Moline; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and three sisters, Bernice Stambaugh of Macomb, Naomi and Gene Cochran of Bartonville and Mrs. Lyle (Irma) Salisbury of Harlingen, Texas.
She retired in 1962 as a stock clerk at the Rock Island Arsenal after 20 years of service.
She enjoyed her yard, flowers and her grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd., in Moline. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 8.
