She was born Nov. 27, 1932, in Jacksonville, a daughter of Edward and Ethel Lashbrook Gibbons. She married Bobby Hugh Runkle on May 26, 1950, in Littleton. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1995. She later married Wendell Surratt on Sept. 30, 2000. He preceded her in death on Feb. 24, 2012.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Lynn Runkle; one stepson, Allen “Wayne” Surratt; one stepdaughter, Brenda Neese; and three brothers, Andrew Gibbons, Don Gibbons and an infant brother.
Surviving are two sons, Bobby Lee Runkle of Wellsville, Kan., and Andy Leroy Runkle of Macomb; two sisters, Darlene (and Bill) Duncan of Manchester and Marilyn Post (and John) Ervin of Hamilton; one grandchild; five step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.
She worked as a nurse’s aide at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville and McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. She and her family later moved to Horseshoe Bend, Ark., where she worked at the local animal shelter and as an EMT. After the death of Bobby, she moved back to Rushville, to be closer to family.
She attended Nazarene Church in Horseshoe Bend.
Memorial Services were held Friday at the Wood Funeral Home in Rushville with Pastor Fred Fritz officiating. Burial was in the Good Hope Cemetery, north of Rushville.
