James Samuell

James SamuellJames A. Samuell, 79, a resident of Clayberg Nursing Center in Cuba, formerly of Lewistown, died at 6:45 p.m. Nov. 15, 2018, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born April 24, 1939, in rural Ipava, the son of Orley D. and Hazel Guffey Samuell. He married Barbara Weese on Aug. 3, 1957, in Astoria. She survives.

Also surviving are three children, Jeff (and Threasa) Samuell and Tim Samuell, both of Lewistown and Cindy (and Tim) Smith of Florissant, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Bickel; one sister; and two great-grandchildren.

He retired from Caterpillar after 30 years of service. He was a member of Crossroads Free Methodist Church in Lewistown and a member and union steward of the UAW Local 974. He was active in the community and had served on the Lewistown Carnegie Library Board, Lewistown City Council, Lewistown Fire Department, Spoon River Towers Board and had led a men’s Bible study.

Cremation will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at his church in Lewistown with Reverend’s Larry Wright and Carl Denham officiating. Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to his church.
