James “Jim” Scrogum, 78, of Virginia died April 18, 2016, at home.

He was born Nov. 18, 1937, in Summum, a son of Paul and Ruby Scrogum.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy Scrogum; six children, Donna (and Frank) Bounasa of Philadelphia, Pa., Gloria (and Dave) Greer of Stafford, Va., Kathy (and Mike) Ledin of Austin, Texas, James Scrogum of Fredericksburg, Va., Debra (and Mark) Schuman of Lorton, Va., and Jeff (and Sheila) Scrogum of Hustle, Va.; two stepchildren; Nicole (and Chris) Craft and George (and Angel) Friend; two sisters, Phyllis Wolff of Canton and Carol Ann Shaw of Summum; 11 grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Benjamin Scrogum.

He served in the United States Navy from 1958-78 where he worked in the White House as a Presidential Briefer for several U.S. Presidents. His later in life careers included Art, Inc. and being a bus driver and instructor for Prince William County Public Schools.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City, VA 22193.
