Muriel SkilesMuriel V. Skiles, 94, of Browning died at 10:35 a.m. March 19, 2009, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born June 3, 1914, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, the daughter of Elmer and Erma Cooper Davis. She married Lester “Bob” Skiles on March 2, 1932, in Rushville. He died July 11, 1995.

She also was preceded in death by two sons, Beverly and Stanley Skiles; three grandchildren, Jamie Birdsell and two infants; and one brother, Denzil Davis.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara (and Buddy) Romine of Ashland, Maralee (and Vern) Weihl of Florissant, Mo., and Judith (and Don) Anderson of Springfield; two sons, Gail (and Linda) Skiles of Virginia and Stephen (and Diann) Skiles of Browning; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in rural Browning. She also wrote “Mount Zion News” for the Astoria South Argus for many years.

She was a member of Schuyler County Farm Bureau, Schuyler County HEA, Rushville State Bank Premier Club, Illinois Sheriff’s Association, AARP and Friends of Astoria Library. She was a former member of Schuyler County Republican Women’s Club.

She was of Christian faith.

Services were held Monday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Pastor Gary Schultz officiating. Burial was in Ridgeville Cemetery in Browning.
