Lester Skiles

Services for Lester L. Skiles, 83, of rural Browning, who died at 9:46 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, 1995, were held Friday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Collis Trone and Rev. Michael Cooper officiating. Burial was in the Ridgeville Cemetery near Browning.

He died when the tractor he was driving turned over, pinning him under it.

He was born Oct. 10, 1911, in Browning Township, Schuyler County, to James A. and Rosa Ann Stambaugh Skiles. He married Muriel V. Davis on March 2, 1932, in Rushville. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Gail of Virginia, Ill., and Stephen of rural Browning; three daughters, Mrs. Buddy (Barbara) Romine of Ashland, Mrs. Verne (Maralee) Weihl of Florissant, Mo., and Mrs. Donald (Judith) Anderson of Springfield; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Donald of Bowen and John of Industry. He was preceded in death by two sons, two sisters, three brothers and one grandson.

A lifelong farmer, he also was Browning Township Road Commissioner for 22 years. He was a school bus driver for Astoria schools for 18 years. He was a former member of the Township Officials of Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the Astoria Rescue Squad or the Schuyler County Rescue Squad.
