Perry SwanPerry L. Swan, 74, of Beardstown died Sunday evening, April 27, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Beardstown, a son of William H. and Ila A. Fritz Swan. He married Dorothy Campbell on Aug. 19, 1955, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Tom Swan of Beardstown; two daughters, Crystal Hopper of Meredosia and Tammy (and Mike) Stretton of Savanna; three brothers, Harold (and Sherry) Swan and Robert Swan, both of Beardstown and Henry (and Mary) Swan of Savanna; three sisters, Willa (and Richard) Fisher of Summum, Virginia Hood of Beardstown and Nancy Maher of Osage Beach, Mo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and James; and one grandson, Clinton Douglas Hopper.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1954 aboard the USS Alsea.

He attended Beardstown Schools.

He commercially fished, farmed in both Cass and Schuyler counties, was a partner and operated C.S. Shell Company and U.S. Shell Company for many years, and was a caretaker and operator of Honey Point Gun Club for over 20 years.

Graveside services will be held at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at Beardstown City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown.
