Christopher Smith

Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Christopher I. Smith, 22, of New Port Naval Base, New Port, R.I., formerly of Macomb, died at 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at the Naval Base.

He was born May 12, 1979, in Macomb, the son of Jack V. and Deborah K. Baugher Smith.

Surviving are his father of Erial, N.J.; his mother of Macomb; two sisters, Angela M. (and Dave) Ragle of Astoria and Kimberley D. (and Greg) Schreacke of Paola, Kan.; and his grandparents, Chester and Kathleen Baugher of Macomb and Louise Smith of Cuba.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dr. Vernon Shryock Smith.

He was a 1997 graduate of Macomb High School and attended Western Illinois University in 1997. He graduated from Naval Hospital Corpsman School in Great Lakes in 1998. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 18, 1997. He was assigned security duties at the Naval Ambulatory Care Center at New Port Naval Base.

Services were held Monday at Sargent-Worthington Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Workman officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb with military rites accorded by U.S. Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center, Peoria.
