Vernell Wayne Sharp, 68, of Washington, formerly of Mapleton, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2001, at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Pekin, a son of Ernest Merion and Norma Tosi Sharp.
Surviving are his stepfather and mother, Elmer and Norma Lawver of Pekin; one brother, Kenneth (and Chona) of Yuma, Ariz.; one half brother, Jack (and Virginia) Sharp of Mapleton; five stepsisters, Darlene Westlake and Carla (and Steve) Poppenhager, both of Astoria, Crystal (and Allen) Welker of Vermont, Leanna (and Ron) Ludwig of Mapleton and Rhode Davis of Tampa, Fla.; Auda Winstead of Washington, who was his caregiver; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
He was an Army veteran.
He worked in the Mapleton foundry at Caterpillar Inc. for 12 years, retiring in 1994.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Cremation will be accorded and graveside services with burial of ashes will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Rev. Tim Nolan will officiate. Abts Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
