WILMER L. “SPEED” SPENCER

Wilmer Spencer

Wilmer L. “Speed” Spencer, 86, of Lewistown, formerly of Havana, died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Prairie View Convalescent Center.

He was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Snicarte, a son of Earl and Nettie Mae Smith Spencer. He married Dorothy Moore on May 15, 1938, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Marshall of Green River, Wyo., and Joyce Yates of Sarasota, Fla.; three sons, Richard of Ipava, and Steven and George, both of Paris, Ill.; two brothers, George of Peoria and Harold of Ipava; one sister, Myrtle Phelps of Beardstown; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

He was a mechanic and worked in engine repair.

He was a member of Crisman Masonic Lodge 148, AF&AM.

Graveside services were held Thursday at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana with Rev. Louis Kunz officiating. Hurley Funeral Home in Havana was in charge of arrangements.
