Jackie J. Smith, 68, of Rushville, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at his residence.

He was born April 9, 1930, in Ray, the son of Andrew Jackson and Lela M. Sipes Smith.

Surviving are one son, Scott of Fort Knox, Ky.; three daughters, Sherry Stice of Keokuk, Iowa, and Laura Holmes and Tambra Gallion, both of Dixon, Tenn.; one brother, Duane of Pekin; three sisters, Mildred Norman of Spring Park, Minn., Marcella Long of Virginia and Verna Burke of Rushville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

He served in the Air Force for 20 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1971. He then worked in highway construction until retiring.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at Rushville City Cemetery with Rev. Robert Belew officiating. Graveside military rites were conducted by Schuyler American Legion Post 4. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to a fund for his family, c/o Schuyler State Bank in Rushville.
