Nellie C. Smith, 91, of the Prairieview Care Center, Lewistown, died at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at Graham Hospital in Canton.
She was born Jan. 11, 1906, in Beardstown, a daughter of Charles and Cora Ragsdale Scherrer. She married John T. Smith on June 3, 1925, in Virginia, Ill. He died April 14, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one sister.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Smith of Ipava and Jack Smith of Lewistown; two daughters, Margaret Spencer of Ipava and Patsy Smith of Lewistown; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Joe Scherrer of Beardstown.
She worked as a waitress and a cook for several years, and also worked as a custodian at Prichard-Clark Grade School at Little America for several years. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown, and a member of the Lewistown Rebecca Lodge. She was a quilter at her church.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Henry Memorial Home in Lewistown with Rev. John Pereboom officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Lewistown. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the memorial home.
