Ressie Surratt, 85, of Heritage Manor East Nursing Home in Beardstown, formerly of Rushville, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.
She was born Oct. 9, 1911, near LaGrange Locks in Brown County, Ill., a daughter of Willard Andrew and Laura Hattie Wainman Roate. She married Clarence Everett Surratt on Dec. 3, 1926 in Springfield. He died on Jan. 29, 1986.
Surviving are her children, Mrs. Murle (Gwendola Mae) Hullinger of Tallula, Wendell Surratt of Rushville, Mrs. Fern Tarr of Holts Summit, Mo., Mrs. Virginia Leach of Rushville, Mrs. Ray (Selma Kathleen) Dockum of Grand Island, Neb., Mrs. Warren (Patsy Louise) Dodds of Frederick, Mrs. Art (Lorinda Faye) Brewer of East Ridge, Tenn.; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one step-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Reba Friswold of Winchester and Ruby Kleinlein of Mt. Sterling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, five sisters, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker all her life. She was a member of the Sugar Grove United Methodist church and the United Methodist Women.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Rev. Harold Hedden officiating. Burial will be in the Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church.
