Charlie O. Steck, 78, of rural Galesburg, died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 1996 at his home.

He was born Aug. 22, 1918, in Willow Hill, Pa., to John and Goldie Dalton Steck. He married Charlene H. Snowden on March 2, 1980 in Vermont. She survives.

He is also survived by three stepsons, Randall Snowden and Michael Snowden, both of Vermont and Herbert Snowden of Table Grove; two stepdaughters, Gloria Hinrichs of Vermont and Linda Bair of Springfield, Ohio; 16 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Carl Steck of Maquon, Roy Steck of Galesburg, Raymond Steck of London Mills and Paul Steck of rural Galesburg; two sisters, Mary Howard of Maquon and Hazel Aydelott of London Mills.

He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Steck was a farmer in the Knox County area until retiring in 1977, then worked for 20 years at Gates Rubber Co., retiring in 1980. He attended the Christian Church in Vermont and was a member of the Galesburg Archery Club. He served in the Army as a sergeant during World War II.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Christian Church in Vermont with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Burial was in the Vermont Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Galesburg was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Galesburg Archery Club.
