Florine Sanders, 89, of Congerville, formerly of Astoria, died at 5:33 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 1996, at BroMenn Regional Medical Center in Normal.
She was born July 28, 1906, in Pleasant Township, Fulton County, a daughter of Martin and Mary Bucher Wickert. She married Ivan L. Sanders on June 30, 1940, in Girard. He died Sept. 5, 1968. She also was preceded in death by four sisters and six brothers.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Marilyn) Biesenthal of Congerville; one son, Robert of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Cindy Truby, Green Valley, Gary Biesenthal, Aviano, Italy, Todd Biesenthal, Bloomington, Erica Sanders, St. Louis, Jeff Biesenthal, Normal, Doug Sanders, St. Louis, Gina Biesenthal, Congerville, Abby Sanders, St. Louis; four great-grandchildren, Blake Truby, Daniel Sanders, Kelsey Biesenthal and Bradley Biesenthal; and one sister, Ruth Wickert of Astoria.
She was a key punch operator for the Chicago and Illinois Midland Railroad for 13 years. She was a member and treasurer of the Astoria Church of the Brethren, its Women’s Fellowship secretary and Clothes Closet coordinator.
Funeral services were held Monday at her church with Rev. Gary Schultz officiating. Burial was in Astoria Cemetery.
