Austin E. Reed Dies At Age 85

Austin E. Reed, 85, of Macomb, father of Mrs. Alice Snowden of Table Grove, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 1985, at Wesley Healthcare Center, Macomb.

He was born Dec. 24, 1899 in McDonough County, a son of John Q. and Margaret Higgason Reed. He married Mary Kutcher Oct. 29, 1925. She died Nov. 14, 1974.

Surviving are three sons, Richard E. of Palatine, Jack L. of Colchester and Kenneth L. of Galesburg; a daughter, Mrs. Devere (Alice) Snowden of Table Grove; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Albert Reed and two sisters, Fannie Points and Orpha Plassman Riggs.

He spent his entire life in the Macomb area and was a farmer. He was a member of McDonough County Farm Bureau and an active leader in 4-H clubs.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Chapel in Macomb. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
