VeteranJohn Riggins, 73, Of Vermont Dies

John M. “Mossy” Riggins, 73, of Vermont died at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, 1980, at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria.

He was born Aug. 14, 1907, in Adair, the son of Schuyler and Lottie Hayes Riggins. He married Grace Foster in Macomb on Mar. 27, 1933. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Donald of Industry and James of Vermont; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Fugate of Industry and Mrs. Donna Miller of Vermont; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Vance of Colchester and Mrs. Nellie Richardson of Vermont.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, one brother and one sister.

He was a member of the Eagle Community Church, Macomb UFW Post 1921 and had been employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Eagle Community Church with Rev. Alvin Sawings officiating. Burial was at Camp Creek Cemetery.
