EDNA MARY (GRUBER) RUTH

Mrs. Harve Ruth Dies Following An Operation

The people of Astoria were shocked on Sunday afternoon to learn of the death of Mrs. Harve Ruth, who died at a Bloomington hospital Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, following an operation for goitre. The operation was performed on Wednesday and it was the general impression she was getting along satisfactorily.

Edna Mary Gruber, daughter of Jos. A. and Elizabeth (Wherley) Gruber was born in Astoria, Ill., Aug. 23, 1894 and departed this life Sunday, July 24, 1927, aged 32 years, 11 months and 1 day.

Aug. 6, 1916 she was united in marriage to Harve Ruth of Astoria, Ill. To this union were born three daughters, Wanda Lee, Maxine and Betty, aged nine, seven and four years respectively.

She and her husband began housekeeping on the A. H. Lind farm south of Astoria where they have resided continuously to the time of her departure.

During a revival in 1909 she gave her heart to the Lord, and on Thanksgiving Day she united with the Church of the Brethren, to which she gave her loyal support to the day of her death.

Edna was always willing to serve her Master wherever she could, and was a most devoted wife and mother; ever busy caring for the home and the rearing of her three little girls, in whose interests she never failed, and in whom she always carried a justifiable pride.

She was deeply interested in both the spiritual and social activities of the Home Makers Sunday School class of which she was a charter member.

Her interests also extended into community affairs, as evidenced by her activities in the Home Bureau, of which she was an honored member.

Her sudden and unexpected death comes with a shock and is a real loss to both church and community. Again we are made to wonder — why? But with heads bowed in sorrow, we humbly trust Him who doeth all things well.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, her three little girls, her father and mother, two brothers, Clarence Gruber of Astoria and Jess Gruber of Dixon, Ill., an only sister, Mrs. Otis Bloomfield of Peoria, Ill., together with many other relatives and a host of friends who join in extending their sympathies to the bereaved family.

Funeral services were held at the Astoria Church of the Brethren today at 2:00 p.m., the pastor, Rev. E. F. Caslow, officiating, assisted by Rev. Merlin Miller of Mt. Morris, Ill. Interment in Woodland cemetery.

An Error

In last week's issue of The Argus-Search Light, we stated that the body of Mrs. Harve Ruth was laid to rest in the Woodland cemetery. This is an error. The interment was made in the Astoria cemetery.
