Adam Ray Dies Thursday, Aged 81; Burial Saturday

Adam Ray, widely known and highly esteemed resident of Schuyler county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rex Curless Thursday at 11 o’clock, aged 81 years, one month and 11 days. Death was due to pneumonia and other complications brought on by advanced age.

The deceased was the son of Joseph and Phoebe Ray and was born near Indianapolis, Ind., Feb. 13, 1839. At the age of 14 he came to Illinois and located in Schuyler county, near Sheldons Grove, where he has since resided with the exception of two years when he resided in Barton county, Mo.

On Mar. 13, 1864 he was united in marriage to Miss Melissa Price, who preceded him in death thirteen years ago. To this union six children were born one dying in infancy. Those surviving are: John Ray, Mrs. Louise Shaw, Mrs. Zelma Curless all of near Bluff City, Mrs. Phoebe Graham and George Ray of Peoria. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Ray united with the Primitive Baptist church at Mt. Zion in Aug. 1895. In Aug. 1897 he was chosen Modernor which office he filled satisfactorily to the time of his death.

Funeral services were at the Bluff City church in Bluff City, Saturday at 1 o’clock, conducted by Elder A. J. Conlee of Roodhouse. Burial in the Price cemetery.
