Wayne QuillenWayne Quillen, 91, of Rushville died at 2:08 p.m. Feb. 11, 2011, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Rushville, the son of Milton H. and LaVina J. Sayrs Quillen. He married Mary Eleanor “Marnie” Rexroat on Jan. 12, 1941, in Keokuk, Iowa. She died Oct. 11, 1995.

He also was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Hills.

Surviving are two sons, Dennis (and Judy) Quillen and Larry “Termite” Quillen, both of Rushville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was a U.S. Fifth Army Veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1945 in the North Africa, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno and Northern Appennines campaigns.

He worked for David Dean’s Dairy, Lashmett Furniture, Mickelberry Meat Packing, and owned and operated Quillen Standard Station. He retired from Oscar Mayer and Co. in Beardstown as a supervisor on Sept. 1, 1984.

Services were held Tuesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Mr. David Haney officiating. Burial was in Rushville City Cemetery with military honors conducted by U.S. Army Honors Guard and Guthrie Pierce VFW Post #1239.
