She was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Woodland Township, Fulton County, Astoria, a daughter of Carl and Ferne Beaty Schisler. She married George Alexander Pempek on Nov. 10, 1960, in Springfield. He preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 2018.
She also was preceded in death by one sister, Nelda Parker.
Surviving are one son, Byron G. (and Sara) Pempek of Springfield; two sisters, Melba Collins of Macomb and Carolyn Holloway of Chillicothe; and two grandchildren.
She graduated from Western Illinois University in 1951 with a bachelors degree in elementary education. She taught at Mount Sterling, Lewistown, Wheaton and Jane Adams in Springfield.
Funeral Mass was held Tuesday at Church of the Little Flower in Springfield with Rev. Allen M. Kemme as celebrant. Burial followed at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.
