Dwight G. Plate, Sr., 66, of 2009 S. Center, Marshalltown, Ia., died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1980, at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.
He was born Apr. 12, 1914, near Huron, S. Dak., the son of Henry and Alice McQueen Plate. Following his mother’s death, he was adopted and raised by his aunt and uncle, John and Elizabeth Cook in Macomb, Ill. He was married to Eleanor West in Peoria and she died in 1937. He married Margaret Ralf on Feb. 9, 1957. She survives.
Also surviving are four children, Mrs. Elizabeth Bruene of Traer, Ia., Dwight Plate, Jr. of Alburnett, Ia., Mrs. JoAnn Decker and Mrs. Margaret Andrews of Marshalltown, Ia.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Crook of Portland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, 3 sisters, parents and adoptive parents.
Mr. Plate was reared and educated in Macomb where he attended Western University, moving to Marshalltown in 1936. He was employed by the M. & St. L. Railroad, retiring in 1976. He was a member of all Masonic bodies in Peoria, including the Mohammed Temple as a 32nd degree Mason. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Marshalltown.
Mr. Plate was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Sue Plate of Astoria and an uncle of “Sonny” Plate of Lewistown. The late Frank Plate of Astoria was a brother.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Pursel-Davis Chapel with Rev. Darrell Mitchell officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Masonic services were conducted in the Chapel.

Relatives and friends in this area received word of the sudden death of Dwight Plate of Marshalltown, Iowa which occurred on Sunday, Sept. 14, 1980.
