Frank Plate, 80, Dies In Hospital

Frank PlateFrank Plate, 80, of Astoria, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 1980, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

He was born Apr. 29, 1899, in Astoria, the son of Henry and Alice McQueen Plate. On Feb. 25, 1928, in Mitchell, S.D., he was married to Susie Kopfmann. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, LaVerne “Sonny” Plate of Lewistown; three grandsons, Allan, Collin and Aaron Plate; one brother, Dwight Plate of Marshalltown, Iowa; and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Crook of Portland, Ore.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Mr. Plate was a retired farmer. He was also employed for 21 years by the Astoria Bader & Co. Elevator before his retirement.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Rev. Lester Burgard and Collis Trone officiating. Burial was in the Ipava Cemetery.

Cindy Shafer served as organist for the service and Beverly Carlton soloist. Pallbearers were Orlen Poppenhager, Robert Curless, George Fisk, Carter Danner, Luther Slinker and Glen Thompson.

Frank Plate, 80, of Astoria, died at 11:20 p.m. last night at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville following a lengthy illness.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Shawgo’s in Astoria.
