Vernon Oest

Vernon W. F. Oest, 73, of Astoria died at 8:12 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Havana Healthcare Center in Havana.

He was born March 21, 1932, a son of John and Elizabeth Koehne Oest. He married Berenice Waino Hamm on April 18, 1976. She survives.

Also surviving are two stepsons, Ronald (and Rosemary) Hamm and Dennis (and Pam) Hamm, both of Peoria; two stepdaughters, Sue (and Gary) Tarvin of Astoria and Marilyn Ford of Canton; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and three brothers, Alvin (and Shirley) of Topeka, Donald of Ellisville and Kenneth (and Bessie) of Havana.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

He was a boilermaker for more than 30 years, last working for Archer Daniels Midland in Peoria. He retired in 1994.

He was a 30-year member of Twin Forks Hunting Club of Quiver Creek in Mason County, a trustee for Kerton Township in Fulton County, and treasurer and trustee of Hickery-Kerton Fire Department in Fulton County.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana with Rev. Brian Lesemann officiating. Cremation will be accorded.
