John Oest Jr., 66, of Pekin, died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born Oct. 10, 1930 in Bath, a son of John Sr. and Annabelle Koehne Oest.

Surviving are his mother, Annabelle Oest of Havana; five sons, Barry Oest of Topeka, Billie Oest of Trivoli, Brent Oest of San Jose, Danny Oest of Marseilles and Denny Oest of Brandon, Fla.; one daughter, Brenda Oest of Havana; four brothers, Vernon Oest of Astoria, Alvin Oest of Topeka, Donald Oest of Ellisville and Kenneth Oest of Havana; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

One daughter, Belinda Oest, and one sister preceded him in death.

He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and also served in the Army. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6408. A construction worker, he was a member of Laborers Local 253 in Jacksonville.

Graveside services were held this morning at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Military rites were accorded by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
