Robert Nelson

Robert N. Nelson, 73, of Table Grove died at 5:10 p.m. June 11, 2010, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Aurora, a son of Harry and Elizabeth Thurow Nelson. He married Shirley Immel Engel on May 17, 1974, in Yorkville. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Jeffrey (and Susan) Nelson of Beason, Gregory (and Debbie) Nelson of Aurora, Scott (and Karen) Engel of Table Grove, and Tim (and Missy) Engel of Ipava; two daughters, Cindy (and Michael) Yazvec of Table Grove, and Suzanna (and Rex) Fouts of Ipava; two brothers, David Nelson of Portland, Tenn., and Paul (and Mary) Nelson of Williams, Minn.; and one sister, Joyce Nelson Everson of Naperville.

He was raised in Oswego, and worked as a welder there. He also was a self-employed truck driver. He retired from the Freeman United Coal Company in Industry in 2003.

He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Table Grove Fire Department and United Mine Workers of America.

Services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m., graveside at Harris Cemetery in Table Grove, with Pastor Rob Harrison officiating. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
