Robert Devere Mummert, 89, of Astoria died at 8:48 p.m. May 16, 2025, at his home.
He was born March 13, 1936, in Dwight, a son of Devere and Mary Belle Robertson Mummert. He married Loretta June Derry on Dec. 19, 1959, in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deevon (and Wendell) Schisler of Astoria and Rhonda (and Terry) Palm of Ipava; one son, Robert Mummert Jr.; one brother, Jon (and Cindy) Mummert of Browning; seven grandchildren, Nathan (and Sarah) Allen, Miranda (and Jacob) Hoppock, Tyler (and Taylor) Lamb, Kristin Lamb, Rachelle (and Joey) Michalski, Robert Mummert III and Regan Mummert; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, James Mummert.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1961-64 with a rank of Airman 2 Class.
He graduated from Bradley University with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He went on to work at several places including Hiram Walker’s in Peoria, Ford-Lincoln-Mercury in Melrose Park, Allstate Insurance as an insurance adjuster for over 20 years, IDOT as a lead worker for over 15 years, Amax Coal Company at Sunspot Mine and IDPH in Lewistown.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria with Jon Mummert and Pastor Matthew Thiner officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to service on Saturday. Military rites will be provided by the Astoria American Legion. Burial will be in the Astoria Cemetery.
