Arthur McCarty Jr.Arthur McCarty Jr., 89, a former resident of Vermont died March 6, 2011, in Aurora.

He was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Vermont, a son of Arthur Floyd Sr. and Edith Marie Diamond McCarty. He married Charlotte E. Stockham on June 1, 1943, in Lewistown. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Sharilyn M. Johnson of Sterling and Julie B. (and John) Hughes of Broomfield; one son, Robert A. (and Caroline) McCarty of Sterling; two sisters, Faye Orfans of Lewistown and Dorothy Krisher of Galesburg; one brother, Gene McCarty of Marissa; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Thelma Sheets, Lois Shawgo and Margaret Smith; one brother, John McCarty; and one great-grandchild, John Robert Hughes.

He graduated from Vermont High School.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in Ordinance, Oahwa, Hawaii. He did basic training at Fort Francis E. Warren in Cheyenne, Wyo.

He farmed in the Lewistown and Industry areas for 12 years. He retired from the U.S. Post Office in 1983 after 24 years of service.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

He was a member of Methodist Church in Lewistown and Christ United Methodist Church in Sterling, Colo.

Services were held March 10 at Tennant Funeral Home. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, Colo.

Charlotte resides at Colorado State Veterans Home, Room 227, 1919 Quentin St., Aurora, CO 80045.
