Charlotte McCartyCharlotte Emogene McCarty, 98, of Sterling, Colo., died April 10, 2022, at the Colorado State Veteran’s Home in Aurora.

She was born Charlotte Emogene Stockham in Peoria, on March 8, 1924, a daughter of Bessie Jane Williams Stockham and Sydnor Freeman Stockham. She married Arthur McCarty on June 1, 1943, in Lewistown. He preceded her in death.

She also was preceded in death by four sisters, Vivian Christopher Clark, Lucille Calloway, Glenna Grosclaude and Maurine Blackwell; six brothers, Morris Stockham, Jack Stockham, Robert Stockham, Tom Christopher, Gerald Christopher and Kenneth Christopher; and one great-grandchild.

Surviving are three children, Sharilyn Johnson, Robert (and Caroline) McCarty and Julie Hughes; one sister, Marilyn Blackwell; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She and Arthur moved to Colorado in 1963 with their children.

She attended high school in Lewistown and graduated in 1942.

Services were held at Tennant Funeral Home in Sterling on Monday with Fred Crawford officiating. Burial followed at Sterling’s Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to Safe Place for Pets, an organization that cares for and re-homes pets of those in hospice care. Safe Place for Pets, 520 N. Hancock Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.
