John S. Mirkes, 70, of Oklahoma died Jan. 9, 2008, at his residence.

He was born in Hennessey, Okla., on Feb. 28, 1937, a son of John S. and Emma Rothermel Mirkes. He married Phyllis Iven on Aug. 22, 1962, in Hennessey. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Kevin (and Gina) Mirkes of Edmond, Okla.; one daughter, Rhonda (and Patrick) Price of Edmond; one brother, Nicholas (and Rosalie) Mirkes of Hennessey; three sisters, Lucile Turner of Birmingham, Ala., Rita O’Hern of Vermont and Rose Ann Bagniefski of LaCross, Wis.; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Albert Ludwig.

He served in the U.S. Navy.

He graduated from Hennessey High School in 1956.

He was a farmer/rancher and homebuilder. He and his crew constructed homes and did remodeling in Hennessey and the surrounding area.

He was a member of the board of directors of Hennessey Farmers Elevator and Cooperative Association for 12 years (1970-1982) which included serving as secretary and president.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Men’s Club and Choir. He also served many years on the Parish Council, Finance and Building committees.

Services were held in Oklahoma.
