Leska Mercer

Leska R. Mercer, 94, of Astoria Health Care Center, formerly of Vermont, died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville.

She was born June 18, 1904, in Vermont, a daughter of Charles and Harriet Mercer.

Surviving are two sisters, Neva Mercer and Margaret Palmer, both of Vermont; and many cousins.

She graduated from Western Illinois University. A teacher for 41 years, she taught in Oak Park and later at VIT School in Table Grove. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi sororities. She was a member of the National and Illinois Retired Teachers’ associations.

Graveside services were held Tuesday at Vermont Cemetery with Rev. Tim Gilliland officiating. Cremation has been accorded. Arrangements were by Kost Memorial Home, Vermont.
