VeteranJames Mourning Dies At Age 60

James Paul Mourning, 60, former Rushville City Attorney, died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Mr. Mourning was born June 26, 1920, in Rushville, the son of Paul W. and Mary Loring Mourning. He married Mary Jane Phillips June 25, 1950, in Beardstown.

He was a graduate of Rushville High School, DePauw University, and University of Illinois Law School. He was the city attorney for Rushville for the past 11 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Schuyler Bar Association, Rushville Lodge No. 9 AF and AM, and Schuyler Post No. 4 American Legion. He was a past member of the Rotary and an Army veteran during World War II. He was a former Schuyler County States Attorney and Assistant Attorney General for Schuyler and Brown Counties.

Surviving are his widow; a son, Paul W. of Rushville; one sister, Mrs. John (Betty) Curl of Rushville; two nieces; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Rushville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Bass officiating. Burial was in the Rushville City Cemetery.
