She was born July 9, 1925, in Rushville, the daughter of Paul Wetzel and Mary Florence Loring Mourning. She married John Robert Curl on July 28, 1947, in Rushville. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2003.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, James Paul Mourning; and one nephew, Paul W. Mourning.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jean (and David) Hertling of Snellville, Ga., and Barbara Curl (and Chuck Larson) of Evanston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Rushville High School in the class of 1943. She graduated from DePauw University, Greencastle, Ind., in 1947. For more than 20 years, she was a language arts teacher at Rushville Junior High School. She retired in 1981.
She was a member of Rushville First United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter AL. Except for her college years, Betty was a lifelong resident of Rushville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville with Reverend Stacy Tomich and Mr. David Haney officiating. There will be no visitation.
