Paul Mourning

Paul MourningPaul W. Mourning, 54, of rural Rushville, died at 6:40 p.m. December 4, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 24, 1955, in Rushville, the son of James Paul and Mary Jane Phillips Mourning. He married Lynn Ward on April 14, 1982, in Rushville. They later divorced.

Surviving are one son, James P. Mourning of Rushville; two daughters, Melissa Mourning (and companion Billy Glover) of Rushville and Ashlee Mourning (and companion Karey Clark) of Beardstown; one aunt, Betty Curl of Rushville; and special friend, Jan Sarnes of Havana.

He was an Illinois correctional officer at Clayton Work Camp in Clayton for many years. Before that, he worked as a part-time police officer for Rushville City Police Department and Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department.

He was a member of Rushville First United Methodist Church where he had been active with Wednesday night youth group when his children were young.

He was a member of Rushville Little League Association for many years serving on the board of directors and as a past president.

He received the Chamber of Commerce father of the year award in 1999.

Private family services will be held Wednesday at Rushville City Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville is in charge of arrangements.
