Andy Mummert Dies, Following Long Illness

Andy Mummert, a well known and highly respected citizen died at his home in Astoria Sunday morning at 7:20, following an illness of about four years duration. For the past year or more, Mr. Mummert has been an invalid. He was bedfast since along in January of this year.

Mr. Mummert was born in Hanover, York County, Pa., April 18, 1857. At the time of his death he was aged 73 years, 2 months and 18 days. [He moved here] with his parents when he was ten years of age. His parents lived on the farm now owned by William Mummert, located east of Leesburg in Woodland township.

Mr. Mummert has been twice married. His first wife was Miss Sarah Hamm. They were married in July, 1878. To this union one daughter was born, Mrs. Guy Mooney of Morris, Ill. Mrs. Mummert died in January, 1901.

His second wife was Miss Laura McClelland. They were married February 2, 1902.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by two brothers, Cornelius and George Mummert of Astoria and two sisters, Mrs. Henry Lehman of Astoria and Mrs. Henry Dubes of Decatur.

Mr. Mummert was a life long democrat and served two years on the board of supervisors from Astoria township. He had strong convictions on all political, moral or social question and never hesitated about expressing them. He was a kind-hearted, genial man and everybody respected him. He was generous, public-spirited and hospitable, and will be greatly missed by those who have known him intimately for many years.

Funeral services were held at his late residence Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Rev. W. H. Day and assisted by Rev. E. F. Caslow of Virden, Ill. Interment in the Astoria Memorial Mausoleum.
